Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred.


  • Hardware platforms: HPE ProLiant, HPE C7000 blades, HPE Thin Clients, 3PAR SAN
  • PowerShell, VBscript, Batch, Python
  • Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)
  • VMware vSphere 5/6, Citrix XenDesktop
  • Symantec Netbackup
  • Host monitoring tools such as IPSwitch WhatsUp Gold



  • Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, management information systems, computer science, a related specialized area or field is required
  • Must meet DoD 8570 compliance
  • CISSP is a plus

Department of Defense TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Systems Engineer. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.



System Engineers are responsible for collecting requirement or needs from the customer and team leads, identifying system components, developing CONOPS, testing and deploying into production. Responsibilities include:


  • Deploy and integrate 3rd party COTS applications into test and production Windows and Linux environment
  • Analyze and recommend enhances to current system deployments
  • Provide Tier 3 support to current system and application deployments on Windows/Linux environments.
  • System Engineers are responsible for documenting implementation guides and basic user guides along with documented changes to the systems
  • Daily responsibilities will include analyzing and remediating any issues with production systems, responding to customer and team lead requests and working on independent and team projects
  • Responsible for gathering relevant data to determine system capacity needs and make plans for capacity expansions in a proactive manner.
  • Responsible for development and configuration practices that ensure a high level of performance and optimize capacity utilization.
  • Performs requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, detail trade studies, systems integration and test (verification), validation and interface definition studies of subsystem or system elements under supervision of the lead systems engineer
  • Performs technical planning, cost and risk analyses, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for subsystems and system elements
  • Performs customer requirements analysis, develops system requirements and defines allocations to lower levels (elements and components)
  • Performs detailed technical analyses for a subsystem or system elements
  • Develops and evaluates systems, networks and information systems to ensure designs meet applicable governmental security specifications
  • May provide system accreditation/certification evaluation and test support to ensure all technical security features (e.g., identification, authentication, access control, labeling, and auditing) of the system are considered and function properly




  • Able to quickly adapt to new technologies and the desire to learn independently
  • Ability/desire to pro-actively research technology improvements and implement recommend changes to improve system health
  • Ability to independently set priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; a self-starter
  • Demonstrates ability to work on-site with the customer and with a team of mixed experience and skills
  • Able to work independently on individual assignments, while collectively with a team on larger projects.
  • Working knowledge with vSphere 5/6 including vCenter and ESXi
  • Working knowledge with application and patch deployment technologies such as Microsoft SCCM
  • Experience deploying COTS products onto Windows/Linux environment using automated processes
  • Installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting experience with Windows 7/10, Server 2008/2102/2016
  • Strong understanding of Windows Domain infrastructure concepts like Active Directory and Group Policy Objects
  • Experience with client server application deployments
  • Basic networking experience, VLANs and TCP/IP
  • Basic understanding of SAN systems
  • Experience with creating and deployment backup strategies for system deployments
  • Basic understanding of change management processes
  • Experience with SNMP, SMTP, TCP/IP, DNS
  • Proficient use and understanding of systems engineering concepts, principles, and theories
  • Proficient knowledge of other related disciplines
  • Proficient with requirements management & system modeling tools
  • Recognizes various architectural patterns
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Proficient written and verbal communications skills
  • Able to sell concepts and ideas

  • Proficient ability to grasp and apply new information quickly and effectively handle complex assignments
