Basic Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience coordinating and training new users in a classroom-based setting
  • Experience developing and updating training materials and system user manuals
  • Ability to develop/update system documentation
  • Experience with creating and unlocking user accounts
  • Work closely with the end users, answer questions and provide guidance as needed
  • Experience performing user acceptance and regression testing
  • Experience with conducting needs assessments and surveys as needed to ensure focused training plans meet customer requirements and satisfaction

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience

 

Clearance Requirements:

Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security background investigation and must meet eligibility and suitability requirements. Due to the nature of work performed, U.S. citizenship is required

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Technical Trainer for a program supporting a multi-agency federal law enforcement effort. Our Technical Trainer provides end-user instruction on several information technology systems developed and maintained by General Dynamics Mission Systems for a multi-agency federal law enforcement operation Fusion Center and works as a member of the Quality Assurance team.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Plans, develops, and coordinates training programs for a wide range of personnel and customers, including intelligence analysts, law enforcement agents, and management (Unit and Section Chiefs)
  • Interacts with customer and functional organizations to develop specifications for content of courses
  • Prepares lesson plans from engineering documentation and software requirements. Obtains training materials, determines methodology, and coordinates the development of training aids. 
  • Works closely with software developers and the Quality Assurance team to ensure that course material reflects current application features
  • Instructs participants in both classroom lectures and hands-on laboratory sessions
  • Follows up to determine applicability of course material, including developing criteria for evaluating effectiveness of training activities
  • Updates course documentation and user guides on a continuous basis to ensure timeliness and relevance
  • Develops course materials including but not limited to lesson plans, student and instructor guides, student examinations, training aids, etc. while working in an environment independent of support infrastructure
  • Provides non-routine technical telephone or face to face support in the absence of company technical infrastructure in order to resolve customers' hardware, software, and training issues


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficient and able to perform all responsibilities associated with the Technical Trainer position
  • Able to understand complex software systems
  • Capable of managing ad-hoc training courses and one-on-one classes based on learner availability
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theory and concepts as they related to technical training, such as ADDIE or ROPES
  • Competency with Camtasia or other software systems for varied learning design
  • Experience as a technical writer and editor
  • An understanding of software development practices and modalities
  • Ability to use various software applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to produce training materials
  • Proficient analytical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Proficient verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Preferred qualifications include completion of applicable professional certification or coursework in technical training (e.g. ATD Master Trainer certification or similar)
