  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience is required plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus 8 years of relevant experience.



    • Senior System Administrators with at least fifteen (15) years of experience 
    • Experience with:
      • Linux and Unix operating systems and provisioning applications
      • Windows Server operating system environments
      • Windows Server / Active Directory Admin
      • Big Data environments such as Hadoop and Acumulo and provisioning software
      • VMWare hypervisor environment and provisioning software
      • Administer storage platforms which provision the environment
    • (Preferred) Multiple System certifications in provisioning technologies such as Redhat Certified, Linux+, Security+
    • Implementation of Government system design; and extensive knowledge and experience in the implementation of information technology equipment and services
    • Extensive knowledge of methodology, federal information system policies (e.g. NIST 800.53, FISMA, Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG), configuration management)


    This position requires an active Top Secret security clearance upon hire and must meet SCI eligibility. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Big Data Senior System Administrator.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.



    • Responsible for managing the functionality and efficiency of a group of computers running on one or more operating systems
    • Maintains the integrity and security of servers and systems
    • Serves as a front line interface to users with technical issues 
    • Makes recommendations for hardware and software purchases
    • Interacts with third-party technology vendors and internal database staff
    • Conducts systems analysis and development to keep systems current with changing technologies 
    • Duties may include installing new software, troubleshooting, granting permissions to applications and training users
    • Server System Administrator is responsible for leading the day-to-day support of Server services, Operating Systems and physical & virtualized servers
    • Responsible for the configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of physical and virtual hardware
    • Configures, maintains and troubleshoots network related interfaces on servers
    • Performs configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting and does analysis of alerts on Servers
    • Work with customers to identify, isolate, and resolve problems with Server that are effecting other services
    • Plans, designs, and implements necessary configurations to ensure compliance with back-up and disaster recovery policies and procedures for server systems
    • Lead automation efforts to reduce repetitive processes to streamline support
    • Creates, maintains and manages Disaster Recovery Plans for Physical and Virtual Servers
    • Mentors team in technology to allow them to be knowledgeable and self-sufficient
    • Work with manager in understanding and optimizing team performance
    • Advocates continuous process improvement 
    • Identify needs and investigates solutions of tools in providing enhanced support
    • Insures architecture is reliable, flexible, integrated and anticipates future needs anticipates future hardware/software needs to meet future business based on customer requirements
    • Leads reviews and analyzes performance metrics in order to optimize environment for efficiencies. Identifies additional improvement and performance metrics
    • Leads large sized continuous process improvement efforts
    • Administer Linux and Unix operating systems and provisioning applications
    • Administer Microsoft Windows environments
    • Administer Windows Server / Active Directory Admin
    • Administer Big Data environments such as Hadoop and Acumulo and provisioning software
    • Administer VMWare hypervisor environment and provisioning software
    • Administer storage platforms which provision the environment
    • Evaluate system problems of workflow, organization, and planning and develops appropriate corrective action; Perform quality control of processes and products produced
    • Assist in the formulation of technical strategies and processes for administered systems
    • Write, interpret and analyze technical documentation related to system administration
    • Provide consulting support, if requested, to working groups (both internal and external) and committees as substantive authority in subject area
