    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
    Department of Defense TS/SCI security clearance is required in a reasonable period of time. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Software Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

     

    The Senior Software Engineer - Customer Application Integration - will assist customer mission partners in diagnosing and fixing legacy application problems, including helping recover from network and power outages, diagnosing and fixing data flow issues, correcting software and hardware misconfigurations, and providing targeted software upgrades.  In parallel with this day-to-day assistance, responsibilities for this role also include actively assisting mission partners in migrating legacy deployments into containerized, service-based deployments suitable for deployment using modern orchestration frameworks such as Kubernetes.

    In this position, the engineer will work on a small agile team, performing primary development in an unclassified environment but doing primary customer support in a classified environment.

     

    Basic skills and experience:

    • Experience installing and maintaining Data Analytics frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark, Accumulo, Kafka, NiFi, Elasticsearch, and Kibana
    • Experience building and maintaining applications dependent on Data Analytics frameworks
    • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining Linux systems and running Docker containers
    • Experience building service-oriented containerized applications
    • Experience deploying containerized applications using orchestration frameworks such as Kubernetes
    • Experience working in a Linux environment, including installation, configuration and administration

    Preferred skills and experience:

    • Experience using “infrastructure as code” tools such as Ansible or SaltStack for automating installation and troubleshooting steps
    • Experience with tool suites supporting agile CI/CD workflows, such as GitLab, Jenkins or the Atlassian Tool Suite (Jira, Confluence, Bit Bucket, Crucible)
    • Experience tuning InfiniBand and Ethernet network performance
    • Experience performance tuning and profiling parallel and distributed file systems (Spectrum Scale, Lustre, HDFS, Ceph)
    • Experience in developing and debugging software in a highly-scalable, distributed, multi-node environment
