  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in software engineering or a related technical field is required (or equivalent experience), plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.


    Department of Defense Secret security clearance is Required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Air and Missile Defense Planning Lead Software Engineer. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.



    Key Responsibilities:

    • Lead Display, data services, and SW processes management for development efforts.
    • Work with the principal investigator on accomplishing program tasks, schedule, technical issues, and risk
    • Lead the team to meet program milestones.
    • Support definition and develop key collaborative interfaces between various theater planning tools including MIPS, ASW agents, C2BMC, GCCS-M.
    • Responsibilities also include overall enhancements, modifications and corrections to existing software.
    • Responsible for coordinating and overseeing coding, testing, integrating and documenting software solutions.
    • Review and recommend and develop, if selected various Human Factors Engineering approaches.
    • Support systems engineering in the development, traceability, and verification of requirements and interface documentation
    • Work with stakeholders to identify program needs and shape the development efforts.
    • Directly participate and support system architecture design and future proposal work.
    • Lead testing, analysis, and fault isolation in response to issues identified during system integration.
    • Monitor, assess, and drive agile software development processes by updating the software development plans in concert with other program plans. Support process metrics collection and reporting to the principle investigator.


    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Define and develop creative and innovative software architectures and solutions to address emerging challenges in systems-of-systems integration.
    • Lead and support the development, integration, modeling and simulation of the theater planning and real-time assessment systems.
    • Participate in a team environment to design, develop, and enhance the software, including providing full life cycle support (requirement analysis, design, implementation, testing, and debugging).
    • Apply object-oriented design and development techniques in primarily JAVA, but also C++, and Python programming languages
    • Lead the development of unit test software through both automated and manual testing techniques.
    • Analyze test results to support verification & validation, regression testing, formal test events, and concept/feasibility studies.
    • Oversee, investigate and resolve problems related to performance, consistency, and reliability.
    • Lead the development of documentation to capture requirements, technical concepts, software design, and user information.
    • Deliver presentations to peers , team members and customers internal and external to General Dynamics Mission Systems


    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or related technical field or the equivalent



    Secret clearance required at time of hire



    • Experience leading a Group in developing software solutions
    • Experience with agile processes
    • Experience with full software lifecycle including code development, process management,  GUI design, requirements analysis/ mapping (not development)
    • Experience with theater mission planning, assessment and/or situational awareness
    • Experience with Rational toolset in configuration and process management.


    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or related technical field or the equivalent.
