  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree. Master's degree is preferred



    • Strong background in math and Matlab
    • Expertise with digital signal processing algorithms for optical coherent communications
    • Familiarity with 100-400G modulation schemes, such as PM-BPSK, PM-QPSK, PM-QAM


    • Experience with analyzing physical plant/jones matrices, polarization, phase, PMD, CD, OSNR and other impairments along with advanced FEC algorithms are desirable
    • Experience with VPI modeling and simulation tools for system analysis and simulation are a plus

    Candidates must be able to obtain a TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance. Acceptable timing determined by manager. An active Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Electrical Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.



    • Participates in electrical requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis (e.g. timing, power, etc.), design, integration, and verification of electrical components, equipment and systems 
    • Applies principles and techniques of Electrical Engineering
    • Performs electrical engineering root cause analysis for electrical issues, conducts experimental tests, evaluates results to formulate and implement solutions to issues
    • Participates in electrical reviews of electrical components, equipment and systems
    • Evaluates vendor capability to support product development
    • Applies a good understanding of the organizationally defined electrical processes used throughout the lifecycle of the program or project
    • Supports the generation of engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the electrical development life cycle
    • Contributes to the research and analysis of data, such as customer design proposal specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
    • Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability
    • Plans sub tasks for activities described above
    • Generally works with multiple work groups
    • Generally works on problems of moderate scope under frequent general supervision
    • Generally has some contact with project leaders and Program Managers
    • May have some contact with external customers
    • Failure to accomplish results or errors may cause delays or require the allocation of additional resources 


    • Solid use of electrical engineering concepts, principles, and theories
    • Solid understanding of electrical engineering processes
    • Keeps abreast of technology trends
    • Aware of business objective and Engineering role in achieving
    • Solid knowledge in Microsoft Office applications
    • Solid knowledge in electrical engineering design tools
    • Solid written and verbal communications skills
    • Ability to think creatively
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Skilled in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions
    • Understands and begins to apply basic project management principles including IMS, earned value and score cards
    • Ability to recognize and clearly report information relevant to sound electrical engineering design
    • Ability to work well in a team environment
    • Travel may be required
