  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in software engineering or a related technical field is required (or equivalent experience), plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.

     

    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
    Department of Defense TS SI/TK security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Software Engineering Lead.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

     

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Assessing of the system level functional and performance requirements and the definition of software system and real-time work flow implementation strategies
    • Collaboration across a diverse software application/multi-platform environments involving other SME’s to ensure the system software requirements are met and the system requirements and mission need is met
    • Working closely with the RF/DSP engineering and capture teams to perform trade studies pertaining to the development of the control, status, varied analytic application infrastructure and execution, along with operator visualization functionality
    • Defining and assessing the architecture and concepts that facilitate the real-time operation of the system as well as the open architectural models that allows for the seamless integration of third party/COTS applications
    • Identification of system software requirements and design concepts that support the development as well a deployment of analytic software applications by utilizing current application store technologies that have been tailored to the CONOPS of the system
    • Defining of the development and test environments for both the internal team developers in addition to external 3rd party developers
    • Support the configuration, Preliminary, and Detailed Design and integration strategies involving a Cloud based environment that enables the seamless integration of analytic and DSP/IO software products/capabilities
    • Derive software requirements from customer requirements as well as perform analysis and simulation/modeling
    • Development of buildup, integration and system level test approaches and plans
    • Evaluate Customer requirements as they apply to the system level capabilities to include preparation and delivery of customer briefings and capability demonstrations
    • Support business development activities through analysis of customer and market requirements and the suitability of specific vendor products/capabilities. Recommend the development of new capabilities in support of market and customer needs.

     

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    • Performs software requirements analysis, system integration activities, leads research, designs, develops and tests software and tools, to include development of new work products or enhancing existing applications, systems or embedded products
    • Performs technical planning, verification and validation of others work, cost and risk analysis, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems
    • Performs analysis for all levels of total system product to include concept, design, architecture, user experience, test, installation, operation, maintenance
    • Applies principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis to the development of complex solutions
    • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints 
    • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into software solutions utilizing whatever development lifecycle techniques or model will yield the optimal results (Agile, Waterfall, etc.)
    • Researches and analyzes data, such as customer design proposals, market trends, state of technology and industry, specifications and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
    • Applies and champions the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle to support the generation of technical engineering products
    • Participates as a Subject Matter Expert in internal review of software components and systems
    • Receives no appreciable instruction on day-to-day work
    • More often responsible to define the scope, schedule and expectations for the work they execute or lead
    • Exercises latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments for self and teams
    • Accountable to lead and guide the completion of major programs and projects
    • Responsible for resolution of significant and diverse range of complex problems and issues of broad scope and complexity which require the use of ingenuity and creativity
    • Erroneous decisions or recommendations, or failure to accomplish results or errors typically will negatively impact business segment financial results and cause business segment to fail to achieve organizational objectives
    • Provides leadership and/or direction and/or supervision to lower level employees and teams
    • Leads small technical proposals and contributes to medium sized proposals
    • Frequently responsible to lead collaboration activities with senior management and leadership within the company
    • Frequently responsible to lead collaboration with organizations outside engineering or with external customers and vendors/suppliers
    • Occasional contact with Business Development
    • Security clearance may be required
    • Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise as well as with senior internal and external personnel 


    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • In depth knowledge of Cloud environments, technologies, and applications.
    • In depth knowledge of task Planning and Real-time Embedded Task and Resource Management
    • In depth knowledge of Agile Development Methodologies
    • In depth knowledge of C/C++ code development, integration and test
    • In depth knowledge of JAVA code development, integration and test
    • Preferred experience in application store and distribution system development and fielding
    • Subsystem integration and test
    • Previous experience as an IPT Lead
    • Able and willing to travel CONUS 25-50%
    • A seasoned, experienced professional having a wide range of professional experience and possessing a strong understanding of software engineering concepts, principles, and theories and expert at applying technical standards and methodologies to resolve a wide range of issues in creative ways
    • Demonstrates strong skills at helping company meet financial and business objectives by resolving complex issues in creative, effective and financially favorable ways
    • Capable of working on complex problems of diverse scope or situations or data that requires in-depth evaluation of variable factors Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results

    • Strong knowledge of the software development process as well as software engineering concepts, principles, and theories
    • Strong knowledge of software tools supporting Integrated Development Environments (IDE), version control, defect reporting and scripting
    • Detailed knowledge of other related engineering and support disciplines
    • Strong ability to excel at the development of new theories and methods
    • Strong awareness of business objectives and Engineering's role in achieving
    • Strong ability to be creative, innovative and responsible, and able to master advanced decision-making skills
    • Strong ability to multi-task

    PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:
    B.S/M.S in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering with at least 5 -8 years’ experience in embedded real-time software applications associated with communications and EW systems design, test and verification.
