  • Basic Qualifications

    Required Skills:

    Education Requirements:

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience

     

    Clearance Requirements:

    Department of Defense TS/SCI security clearance with a Polygraph is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Mid-Level Test Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

     

     

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    • Evaluates hardware/firmware products for functional verification prior to field deployment
    • Analyzes  component/functional product requirements to develop formal, detailed test plans and procedures
    • Assists in the creation of a Component Test Plan at the end of each development cycle
    • Attends informal working-group development meetings during the development cycle to continuously prepare for the next Test Cycle.
    • Produces an individual, formal End of Test Report for each hardware component tested by the end of the Test Cycle. Reports must clearly state all known variables, as well as the starting state and avoid any assumptions.  Furthermore, they must state all test cases run, resulting outcomes, and the tester’s assessment (documenting anomalies)
    • Works with a small, dedicated team of peer testers to troubleshoot anomalies prior to consulting the development team
    • Consults developer and vendor manuals and user guides to configure and test the hardware
    • Provides a daily high level summary report of which test cases were completed for the day
    • Tracks  progress throughout the day in a ticket tracking system, documenting hours spent against testing, versus procedure editing, versus report generation to satisfy customer request for metrics
    • Attends  daily “stand-up” meeting, proactively listening to issues arising that may affect testers, as well as summarizing your own status and impediments encountered in the previous work day
    • Submits all reports to Team Lead on time for formal review and approval, prior to submission to customer

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and One Note, to include revision tracking in a multi-user environment
    • Excellent interpersonal skills to clearly express test issues and impediments amongst team
    • Comfort with executing tests from a remote  location
    • Experience working with Virtual Environment Desktops
    • Experience working with Windows 7, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2008
    • Experience working with command-line terminals
    • Experience using tools to convert between decimal, hexadecimal, or binaryo
    • Ability to context switch between multiple in-house test tool programs that facilitate testing the end product
    • Desire to learn project’s domain technology, which is a learning curve. Customer may provide training classes from time to time
    • Knowledge of standard testing philosophies with emphasis on (but not limited to): black box testing, integration testing, acceptance testing, boundary testing, and regression testing
    • Conduct research into and apply knowledge of Government test and evaluation concepts and related engineering- and operations activities as needed Ability to adapt, adjust, and switch tasks based on shifting customer priorities
    • Proactively seeks out clarification and help when impeded
    • Plan and Execute Performance Analysis
    • Easily picks up new software tools and ability to debug and work with custom in-house tools
    • Assess operational and performance requirements for testability and criticality to frame and prioritize T&E objectives and enable evaluation planning and scenario selection
    • Analyze performance risk areas to focus T&E planning
    • Select, develop, & use analysis tools
    • Plan and Execute Performance Data Collection
    • Design data sampling schemes to optimize the information/resource balance and to control testing uncertainties
    • Select, coordinate, and calibrate Instrumentation, collection and data management tools, targets & facilities
    • Ensure test readiness including equipment readiness, security consent, and verify all necessary software and manuals provided are the correct version
    • Establish and employ Data & Configuration Management capabilities
    • Comply with program Discrepancy Reporting criteria and processes
    • Execute Testing and Data Collection per plan
    • Produce associated Test Plans, Procedures, and Reports/BriefingsWork directly with the Test Team Lead to coordinate task implementation
    • Maintain knowledge of current and evolving agency, national, and international standards applicable to testing techniques
