  • Basic Qualifications

    Education Requirements:

    Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred.

     

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

    • Deploy, configure, and manage RHEL servers
    • Configure and administer a variety of virtualized (VMWare) environments
    • Configure and manage network equipment, including switches, routers, firewalls and HACIs
    • Configure and administer storage devices
    • Investigate and troubleshoot issues
    • Create and execute scripts to perform needed system functions
    • Support operations and engineering in troubleshooting and resolving issues
    • Represent the organization as the customer contact
    • Interacts with management and senior customer personnel on matters requiring coordination across organizational lines
    • As the Subject Matter Expert have the ability to mentor others on administrating the server environment 
    • Must have hands-on experience developing, deploying and supporting enterprise server solutions 
    • Ensures infrastructure is reliable, flexible, integrated and anticipates future needs 
    • Takes ownership of getting project deliverables done on schedule and within budget
    • Shows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally executes projects with little direction
    • Utilizes skill set to help more inexperienced team members to be more agile 

    Clearance Requirements:

    Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Lab Support Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

     

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    • Provide on-going support for the various development and test components associated with the infrastructure of a mission critical product
    • On occasion, provide on-site support for new product version installations and associated testing
    • Travel to sites as required
    • Provide the day-to-day care of the system components, provide the technical support for the users of the system, and assist in the configuration management of the system
    • Maintains the integrity and security of servers and systems 
    • Serves as an interface to users with technical issues 
    • Makes recommendations for hardware and software purchase
    • Interacts with third-party technology vendors and internal database staff
    • Duties include installing new software/hardware, troubleshooting, granting permissions to applications and training users 
    • Perform server administration for server operating systems; primarily RHEL
    • Performs administration of physical and virtual servers
    • Configures, maintains and troubleshoots network related interfaces on servers
    • Configures, maintains and troubleshoots network equipment
    • Performs OS and vendor software patching on servers
    • Creates scripts to automate repetitive processes 
    • Mentor team in the technology to allow them to be more knowledgeable and self-sufficient
