  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in software engineering or a related technical field is required (or equivalent experience), plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.


    Department of Defense Top Secret/SCI security clearance is desired at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Software Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


    The Senior Software Engineer will develop “automation as code” to deploy and manage Kubernetes clusters on HPC systems.  The engineer will address all aspects of new Kubernetes deployments, to include installing Docker, Docker registries, Docker network overlay solutions such as Flannel, provisionable storage such as Ceph, Kubernetes and Kubernetes plugins tailored to the needs of mission partners deploying applications in the customer HPC environment.

    The individual chosen for this position will work on a small agile team, performing primary development in an unclassified environment but doing primary customer support in a classified environment.


    Basic skills and experience:

    • Experience deploying and maintaining Kubernetes (1.7 or later) clusters of 30+ nodes
    • Experience configuring and deploying network overlay solutions such as Flannel, Weave, Canal or Calico
    • Experience deploying and managing distributed storage solutions such as Ceph, Gluster, or Spectrum Scale
    • Experience deploying and managing Docker (17.09 or later)
    • Experience performing large-scale installations and maintenance with solutions such as Ansible, SaltStack, Puppet or Chef
    • Experience with a modern distributed source code management system, preferably Git

    Preferred skills and experience:

    • Active participation in Kubernetes, Docker or Ceph open-source development
    • Experience with Kubernetes add-ons such as Helm
    • Experience tuning and adapting Infiniband to technologies mentioned above
    • Experience administering and configuring large-scale Linux installations, particularly Red Hat / CentOS, on a wide array of systems
    • Experience configuring and deploying network proxies using technologies such as HAProxy or nginx
    • Experience with tool suites supporting agile CI/CD workflows, such as GitLab, Jenkins or the Atlassian Tool Suite (Jira, Confluence, Bit Bucket, Crucible)
