  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in software engineering or a related technical field is required (or equivalent experience), plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.


    Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.


    Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an Advanced Embedded Software Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


    Advanced Embedded Software Engineers conduct or participate in the design development, and integration development of systems software, software applications and/or tools for new programs and subprograms.


    Responsibilities may include the following:

    • Participate in the full software development life-cycle
    • Provide leadership on design activities on embedded Linux/PetaLinux OS
    • Implement Embedded software in C and C++
    • Investigate and solve state of the art complex problems
    • Develop system level and network programming solutions
    • Integrate and test software and systems
    • Mentor junior engineers

    • Exercise creative thinking and ideation to advance our business performance
    • Deliver innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customers changing business needs
    • Support and engage in programs, projects and practices behind the General Dynamics Mission Systems culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and procedures
    • Follow industry and department trends and developments to ensure General Dynamics Mission Systems' services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices

    Candidates must show a passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of software systems and applications, and the ability to effectively manage, grow and evolve General Dynamics Mission Systems software solutions.

    Candidate must also have significant experience with the following:

    • C and C++
    • Embedded Software development
    • Linux

    In addition the following are highly desired:

    • Demonstrated experience working on a SCRUM Agile development team
    • Experience with PetaLinux




    Experience/Knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

    • Experience developing in Xilinx SDK on Eclipse
    • Experience in Test Automation, Scripting, Unit Testing
    • Experience with avionics interfaces (Ethernet, Fibre Channel, MIL-STD-1553, IEEE 1394)
    • Experience with SNMP, Uboot, Flash programming
    • Network Programming (Internet Protocol version 4/6)
    • Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements System (DOORS)
    • Experience using Agile Backlog management tools like RTC
    • Experience programming and debugging software on MicroBlaze
    • Experience with Make files
    • Experience with Parasoft Static Analysis tool and unit testing tool



    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
