  • Basic Qualifications


    Ten (10) years experience as a System Administrator in programs of similar scope, type and complexity is required


    Other Requirements Needed from Labor Category:

    • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience with either UNIX or Windows System Administration, but at least 5 of those 10 years should be in Linux, to include user account administration, installation and configuration of workstations and peripherals, kernel parameter and disk partition modification, client-server support, software and hardware upgrades, troubleshooting, and shell script programming.
    • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience with Network Information Service (NIS), Network File System (NFS), Domain Name System (DNS), and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP).
    • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience with system administration for Linux/Redhat 5, CentOS 6 and Windows 7. 10
    • Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MSCA) or Redhat Certified Technician (RHCT) certification is highly desirable and can substitute for one (1) year experience
    • One of the following certifications is desirable: A+, Network+, or System Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP)

    Education Requirements:

    Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience is required plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus 8 years of relevant experience


    Clearance Requirements:
    Department of Defense TS/SCI security clearance with a Polygraph is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required


    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior System Administrator.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


    The Senior System Administrator will have the opportunity to work with the following:

    Technologies: Microservices, Docker, Kafka, Kubernetes, Cassandra, Java 8/9, ReactJS, Spring Boot/Cloud/Data, Redis, Postgres

    Tools: Maven, Node, Git, Sonar, Eclipse, Failsafe, Atlassian Jira (Bitbucket, Confluence, Bamboo, Crucible)


    Preferred Skills:

    • Familiarity with Microservices, Linux Containers (Docker), CEPH and Kafka
    • Hands-on Hardware and Software installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting to include COTS, GOTS, and FOSS
    • Virtualization/Cloud Experience
    • Backup/restore hardware, software, processes, implementation including familiarity with COOP methodologies
    • Cisco Switching, Routing and Troubleshooting Experience
    • Familiarity with Agency software process, inventory, and security plans (SSP’s)
    • Experience supporting Application and Database servers
    • Knowledge of Configuration Management build process

    Representative Skills and Tasks:

    • Responsible for managing the functionality and efficiency of a group of computers running on one or more operating systems
    • Maintains the integrity and security of servers and systems
    • Serves as a front line interface to users with technical issues
    • Makes recommendations for hardware and software purchases
    • Interacts with third-party technology vendors and internal database staff
    • Conducts systems analysis and development to keep systems current with changing technologies
    • Duties may include installing new software, troubleshooting, granting permissions to applications and training users
    • Server System Administrator is responsible for leading the day-to-day support of Server services, Operating Systems and physical & virtualized servers
    • Responsible for the configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of physical and virtual hardware
    • Configures, maintains and troubleshoots network related interfaces on servers
    • Performs configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting and does analysis of alerts on Servers
    • Work with customers to identify, isolate, and resolve problems with Server that are effecting other services
    • Plans, designs, and implements necessary configurations to ensure compliance with back-up and disaster recovery policies and procedures for server systems
    • Lead automation efforts to reduce repetitive processes to streamline support
    • Creates, maintains and manages Disaster Recovery Plans for Physical and Virtual Servers
    • Mentors team in technology to allow them to be knowledgeable and self-sufficient
    • Work with manager in understanding and optimizing team performance
    • Advocates continuous process improvement
    • Identify needs and investigates solutions of tools in providing enhanced support
    • Architect and implement physical and virtualized servers using industry standard technologies
    • Architect and implement of servers in lab environments that are physical or virtualized using industry standard technologies
    • Authors, develops and maintains Servers related standards, policies, and procedures
    • Is a valued partner in the client's decision-making process regarding server enhancements and services
    • Key contributor to insure architecture is reliable, flexible, integrated and anticipates future needs anticipates future hardware/software needs to meet future business based on customer requirements
    • Key contributor in Identifying and implementing new performance metrics in order to optimize environment for efficiencies. Identifies additional improvement and performance metrics
    • Leads enterprise sized continuous process improvement efforts
    • Identifies potential critical technical, design or architecture issues and recommends appropriate alternative solutions
    • Develops cross-functional relationships within the organization for sharing and collaboration
